I hope the licensing is transferable to other phones so you don't have to keep buying it.

Talks for windows mobile will be announced in more detail at CSUN, which will run from March 16th to March 21st.

I haven't heard anything about it, but I hope it's true. I use Mobile Speak now, but I'd love to be able to switch back to Talks.

Post 5 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Wednesday, 11-Mar-2009 9:59:37

I'd been hearing rumors about it for a while now. Haven't talked to anyone that's used it yet, but it is on the list of things that'll be announced at CSUN.

www.serotalk.com.
It is a podcast from serotek and you can hear more about it there. It sounds very promissing. They will have a sim lisence system so as long as you use the same simcard you can change phones.

Wow! this is a great confirmation. Verizon is going to be marketing the motorola q9c with Talks and I thought that this was strictly a VZ/Talks partnership because there is nothing about windows mobile on there site. So, REally! Verizon is just going to use something that is going to be made available to the public just like mobile speak but at a discounted rate. Of course the question that needs to be asked is since they are not a GSM carrier is there any way to port the software to another VZ phone? Knowing VZ probably not.

Yay it's out! I have the files just waiting to be installed on my Nokia n82 when it arrives. I wonder if the price will remain the same?

I downloaded the 4.0 version on my Nokia 6650 phone, and I love it! I read somewhere on the release note that the talks program can be transfered to your sim chip so that it's easier to switch from one phone to another without buying another licence. I purchased the premium version early January of last year. I thought I read on the notes that people who have purchased after November 2007 are entitled to a free 4.0 upgrade. Did I interpret the notes wrong? If you have Talks, have you tried transfering to the sim chip and onto another handset? I tried to transfer it from my old phone, but I did not succeed at it, so maybe I did read the notes wrong.

Where can you download the Windows Mobile version?

Post 14 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 14-Mar-2009 9:01:18

I'm not sure if that version is out yet. I've looked everywhere, and I haven't been able to find much about it.

For windows mobile phones with sprint who use no sim card at all how would you switch from phone to phone also.

Post 16 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Saturday, 14-Mar-2009 20:00:47

I've only seen versions available for simbian 60 2nd and 3rd editions so far. I asume the windows version will follow soon.
I downloaded it on my phone and installed it a few days ago while away. It seems pretty good, the only problem I currently have with it is that I can't now get a character count by pressing pound in a text message. Also it seems a little too responsive sometimes if I use word echo when typing, it seems to say the word too fast, sometimes almost missing the first vowel in the word.

Post 17 by Braille Reader (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 14-Mar-2009 21:05:39

I've installed it as well and I'm using the U.S. eloquence version. If you're using Brittish eloquence, that one seems to lag.

I've just read that Verizon Wireless will start selling the Moto Q with Talks tomorrow (March 15).

Post 19 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Saturday, 14-Mar-2009 21:59:46

You can change the speech delay in the settings.

Post 20 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 15-Mar-2009 1:46:13

Brooke, I read the same announcement, but what is confusing me is the moto q 9c isn't listed on the website anymore. I couldn't find it when I tried to upgrade.

Post 21 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 15-Mar-2009 6:50:24

I upgraded my talks last night. It's a free upgrade from version 3 and I think it's so cool. It reads and responds a lot quicker than the older version and it's good that i reads the emei number character by character now instead of having to record it some how. I think it's also good that you can keep it on your sim card for use in different phones. Does anyon know how to do this? Is it doe automatically? Does each phone have to have a demo of talks on before the full version will run? Just some thoughts.

Post 22 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 15-Mar-2009 9:16:44

no, all talks versions are the same out of the box, that is to say they are a ten minute demo, and depending on the licence you purchase, you get either a thirty day, or full licence.

Post 23 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Sunday, 15-Mar-2009 11:05:57

I just looked at the registration screen and there's a sim ID. So I guess it's automatic.

Questions:
If you change your number do you have to get a new sim card, and does it affect the lisence?
I got Talks back when AT&T used to be Cingular. Do i still have to pay the $295 because I changed phones?

Post 24 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Monday, 16-Mar-2009 14:28:41

Ok, at least one answer here, is that the sim registration isn't available in the current build of talks 4 we have, as the price for upgrade hasn't been agreed. There will be an upgrade free, as obviously you won't then have to pay to swap it from phone to phone unless you have to switch sim cards, which happens far less often than changing phones.
Also it's odd that verizon are already able to offer this software as the resellers over in the UK haven't even seen a version for windows based phones yet, but Verizon do have some version which must be launched prior to other versions available.

Post 25 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 16-Mar-2009 16:25:43

I think it's good that you've got the option of choosing talks or zoom only instead of having both on all the time and accidentally putting magnification on when you meant to turn the speed up.

Post 26 by AsianSensation (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 21-Mar-2009 19:40:14

The moto Q appears to be discontinued or on its way out. This makes perfect sense as that phone is kind of archaic. I'm really not sure what verizon is doing by marketing the Q with talks when it's not even being sold in most if not all local stores. Should the phone be discontinued, it'll be a bitch and a half to get it replaced. They've got another windows smartphone, the smt5800 I believe. Anybody remember the old cingular wireless talks deal? Seems that these wireless carriers really have people with disabilities by the nuts when it comes to this kind of software. *sighs*

Post 27 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 11-Apr-2009 12:44:37

Any updates on this topic? Anyone ordered the moto q9c with talks?

Post 28 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 11-Apr-2009 18:03:09

I would try giving verizon a call cuz thats how i found out about it so maybe they have some motorola Q 9's set aside for this offer. I do also believe they said it was a one time fee of $99 so you should be able to take it to your next windows mobile based phone when you upgrade, so long as you stay on verizon anyways. Atleast that the impression i got from talking to them about this a couple weeks ago.

Post 29 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 11-Apr-2009 18:09:29

oh and to the person who wanted to change their number which would usually require a new sin card and may loose their talks license .. here is a work around. Call AT&T and get your number changed over the phone .. you may have to ask around but they can do it.. they also may try to charge you $36 to do it, if you can't get this fee waived $36 is still cheaper than another talks license. Well once they change your number over the phone it will be assigned to your old sin card and there for then you can change phones as well with the new number and still have your talks license in tact. .. this is all providing that the talks license is really tied to the sin card and not the number .. i would varify that first.

Post 30 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 12-Apr-2009 16:12:54

From what I read, it is only $99 if you already have the moto q9c. Otherwaise you are paying the new every two price or the full price.

I'm not due until next April. I've been looking around on craigslist and ebay for a moto q9c.
